Gert's got flu so it's over to gnu! Common Cold,Nobody's Scared,79 Now LP back in stock, Jock Scot,Videos,The Sexual Objects,Harry Papadopoulos,Gigs,Sleaford Mods,Music Machine,Recommendations & tons More!

It's been lurgies galore at gnu inc central over the last couple of weeks and we're only now emerging from the bug fug but personally brain still a bit befuddled so the blog is a bit haphazard as I haven't the energy, clear thought or level of concentration back yet to make everything flow nicely or perhaps even make sense. I mostly put it down to snot, mucus, catarrh, whatever you want to call it, whether it's blocking all pathways to the brain, you are blowing it out, trying to cough-hock it up or swallowing it. In it's defense, it is a line of defense and should you be interested in the question 'Where does all the snot come from?' I recommend this simple straightforward explanation from Professor  Niels Christian Stenklev - http://sciencenordic.com/where-does-all-snot-come

Interview with Kelly Buckley for the Essex Echo

If you haven't come across the erudite and entertaining correspondents Derek Philpott and Wilf Turnbull  then you are in for a treat. I get the impression that a meticulous process is gone through prior to selecting the chosen few singers/songwriters/groups to whom they write (no one is guaranteed a place in these august annals) and dare I say challenge them to respond, to a detailed dissection and analysis of one of their song's lyrics. It's no mean feat to fashion a reply that doesn't let the side down but there are some gooduns' on the site including Dave Collard's on behalf of the Joboxers and Vic's one.*

You may not be able to resist some Philpottery while you're there. (I hope Toby doesn't mind the exposure!)  https://www.facebook.com/philpottery?fref=ts

* Vic's been reading Richard Hell's autobiography I dreamed I Was A Very Clean Tramp and he just read out a sentence that ended '....his fraternal twin brother.' I think had these words been in one of Mr Hell's songs they may well have attracted the attention of Messrs Philpott and Turnbull's and their dry wit.

The Nobody's Scared video below is from The Seventh Wave Presents @ The Flapper 4th October 2014 filmed by Tracey Holloway. We're all looking forward to coming back for more and it's another brilliant line up.

The Clash New Year's Day 1977 documentary - the most interesting part of this for me was seeing Mr Rhodes in action.  You can hear Subway Sect practising in the background during an interview, I missed it. If you've a mind it's available to watch until 1st February. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b04w08p6/the-clash-new-years-day-77

GIG NEWS
25 years later! Vic's back at the Music Machine!
Friday 5th June DHP Family Presents

Sleaford Mods and Vic Godard & Subway Sect
Koko Camden High Street London
It seems from FB responses to posting the gig you either love the Sleaford Mods or hate them, no bad thing for an act in my opinion, better than apathy. Personally? Like the sentiments but not really my cup of tea musically however I do think the 'line up', which seems to be what ticks so many off, is pure punk! http://www.sleafordmods.com/videos/

Vic's thinking about including the whole 1980 Music Machine set (basis of 1979 Now!) in the Sect set for the night, just swapping Landslide with Born To Be A Rebel. Read about the 1980 MM gig here at Kevin Pearce's Your Heart Out blog - yho 13 ...a day to remember. That's if you don't get distracted by Mr Pearce's extraordinary opus 'A Moment Worth Waiting For'. http://yrheartout.blogspot.co.uk/

Been a bit of a hubbub about Davy Henderson's decision to have only one copy of The Sexual Objects's new LP Marshmallow manufactured and then auctioned on ebay with full rights to exploit. The story made it to page 3 of The Independent on Sunday 25/01/2015.
http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/wutang-clan-and-the-sexual-objects-offer-fans-a-chance-to-own-the-only-copies-of-their-latest-albums-10000903.html
and Davy talks about it here on Front Row BBC Radio 4 - http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b050674t
All over bar the shouting now, my only caveat is if the successful bidder decides to keep it to themselves it means fans won't get a look in. One of my very favourite Sexual Object's songs and one I love, love hearing them do live is 'Feels With Me'.

The Sexual Objects are playing at Sneaky Pete's Edinburgh Thursday 29th January -

How come when a member of ISIS beheads someone it is an outrage against humanity yet state sanctioned public beheadings seemingly are not? Just asking, it might help us plebs to understand why the UK had  flags at half mast for King Abdullah, ruler of a regime which has a dire record on human rights including recently sentencing a human being to a 1000 lashes for daring to respectfully raise issues about said regime. Show support for Raif Badawi and find out what he said here - https://www.amnesty.org.uk/actions/saudi-arabia-free-raif-badawi-flogged-blogger?from=issues

Along with many others I personally find it the height of hypocrisy to listen to those praising the late King for his support in advancing  the cause of reform in Saudi Arabia and for his stabilising influence on the area. Apart from anything else, exactly where is this stability occurring?? Iraq, Jordan, Afghanistan, Syria, Palestine, Israel, Egypt, Libya....................
